Sports5 to present sports events that matter to Filipinos




Sports5, the sports division of TV5, will once again be at the forefront of bringing the best international and local sports action to Filipinos this 2014.

First in the line-up for 2014 is America's biggest sporting spectacle, Super Bowl XLVIII (48) which will feature the Denver Broncos versus the Seattle Seahawks. The event will be aired live on February 3 on TV5 starting at 730am.

A few days later, winter comes to the Philippines with the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi, Russia that opens on February 8 at 12mn (Manila time). The Winter Olympics will have 98 medal events in 7 sports and it will be the first time that it will be held in Russia.  The much-awaited event will also have figure skater Michael Martinez as the first homegrown Filipino to compete in the Games. The 17-year old figure skater will be representing the Philippines, which has been absent from The Winter Olympics for the past 22 years.

Also this February, TV5 will also give highlights Ronda Pilipinas, the biggest local cycling competition where the top local and foreign cyclists challenge the toughest terrains in a 14-stage race that covers over 1,800 kilometers. The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympics will also be aired from August 16 to 28 from Nanjing, China. There are 222 medal events in 28 sports, including 3-on-3 basketball, taekwondo, swimming, tennis, boxing, athletics, beach volleyball and football. 

Capping off the major sports event for the year is the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea this September. The best Filipino athletes will be competing against the best in Asia and Sports5 will be giving all the sports highlights in basketball, boxing, volleyball, and taekwondo in the quadrennial event.

Sports5 will also continue to deliver thrilling local sports action with the PBA, UFL and NCAA.

The excitement of the 39th season of the PBA is expected further grow as Asia's first professional basketball league celebrates 40 glorious years in October.

The football mania that is UFL is expected to have another banner year in its partnership with Sports5. The oldest college league in the country is expected to get a boost as the NCAA's 90th season airs on TV5.

All these electrifying sports events will be delivered not just on television (TV5, AksyonTV, Hyper) but also online and mobile with Sports5.PH.

Sports5 has presented the best sports action since it was launched in 2011. Last year, the team successfully brought to the Philippines and to 41 other countries the world-class coverage of the 27th FIBA Asia Championship last August 2013.
