'Niño' Wins Top Plum in 16th Busan International Filmfest
Another Cinemalaya film brought honor to the country.
The Filipino family drama and Cinemalaya 2011 entry "Niño" is tied with an Iranian film "Mourning" for the top prize of the New Currents section of the 16th Busan International Film Festival.
"Niño" is directed by Loy Arcenas and stars Art Acuña, Diana Malahay, Fides Cuyugan Asensio, Shamaine Buencamino, Tony Mabesa, Raquel Villavicencio, Joaquin Valdes and child actor Jhizhelei Deocareza.
Niño received a cash prize of US$30,000. The jury of the 16th Busan International Film Festival cited the Filipino film for being "a well-scripted, finely interpreted, superbly directed film that turns a familiar family saga to a new Aria in an opera."
