Jose Rizal Death Anniversary Honored by P-Noy
No less than President Noynoy Aquino led the nation's observance of the 115th death anniversary of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal Friday, December 30.
A simultaneous flag-raising ceremony was done in various cities, municipalities and towns nationwide at around 7am in the morning.
P-Noy then laid a wreath at the Rizal Monument in Luneta, the place where Rizal was executed by the Spaniards in 1896.
The highlight of this year's commemoration of Jose Rizal's Death Anniversary was the unveiling of the Rizal Fountain historical marker at the Noli Me Tangere Garden in Rizal Park. According to reports, the fountain was a gift of the German government to the Filipino people on December 30, 1964. It was renovated in time for yesterday's commemoration.
Present during the event were Vice President Jejomar Binay, Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, US Ambassador to the Philippines Harry Thomas, National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chairman Dr. Maria Diokno, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Jessie Dellosa, and several members of the Rizal clan.
