GOP Polls Say Newt Gingrich is US Presidential Frontrunner

GOP Polls are currently favoring Newt Gingrich instead of Mitt Romney leaving traditional republicans baffled.

GOP polls

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich receives overwhelming support from GOP voters despite that fact that he doesn't share their values. Even traditional republicans are scratching their heads why Gingrich are topping the GOP polls and getting support from evangelical Christians even though he was known to have been unfaithful to his two wives, paid $300,000 in House ethics fines and converted to Roman Catholicism.

Rep. Steve King from Iowa, one of Congress' most conservative members, is questioning Gingrich's lead in the GOP polls.

"I've had a little trouble figuring it out, too," he said.

The three independent polls of Iowa Republicans show Gingrich in the solo lead garnering around 50% of the votes making him the frontrunner for the 2012 U.S. presidential race.

Gov. Mitt Romney from Massachusetts and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas are battling for second.

According to a report by the Associated Press, one school holds that Gingrich articulates conservative positions with conviction that he attracts hard-right voters willing to overlook his record of inconsistencies.

Another theory suggests Gingrich is skilled at synthesizing and expressing conservatives' goals and anger. It's one possible reason why the attacks being launched against him by Romney's camp have backfired.
