Ricky Pempengco, Dad of Charice, Stabbed to Death

Ricky Pempengco, the estranged father of International Singing Sensation Charice, was murdered in San Pedro, Laguna last October 31.

According to police reports, the 39-year-old construction worker and father of Charice was having a drinking session with his friends at around 9 p.m. when the suspect, identified as Angel Capili, Jr., approached Pempengco and stabbed to death from behind using a twelve-inch ice pick then immediately left the area.

Charice's mother, Raquel Pempengco, appealed for understanding from Charice's fans in Singapore after the Pinay international singing sensation cancelled her upcoming performance in a concert with David Foster.

"Sana maunawaan nila na 'yung nangyayari ngayon kay Charice kung bakit hindi siya makakasama sa Singapore show. Kailangan niya muna makasama ang pamilya niya," she said in an interview by ABS-CBNNews.com.

Charice earlier apologized to her fans in Singapore who are looking forward to see her perform in the David Foster and Friends Concert Tour.

"I am very sorry to all my fans from Singapore. I am not going to be there to be part of David Foster and Friends concert. I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family. I hope you all understand. I love you all and I will see you next year," Charice said.

Charice also expressed her feelings over her dad’s death on Twitter.

“I loved him and I will still love him. He's still my Dad after all.”

Meanwhile, Charice's aunt and Ricky's sister, via an an interview with ABS-CBN this morning, expressed her grievances towards Charice and her mom for leaving his brother many years ago due to domestic violence accusations.

“Masaya na siguro kayo, patay na ang kapatid ko?,” she said.

Charice answered back on Aunt's tirades via Twitter:

Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto Deny Separation Reports

Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto have denied the report of Philippine Star columnist Ricky Lo last Thursday saying that they are already two-months separated.

The issue was ignited by the incident last October 25 when Claudine Barretto allegedly lost P5 million from her joint account with Raymart Santiago (CLICK HERE FOR RELATED ARTICLE).

There are speculations that Raymart Santiago was responsible for the mysterious withdrawal from the said bank account because the couple have allegedly parted ways secretly two months ago.

Here is the full statement coming directly from Raymart and Claudine as published in PEP:

"In recent days, there have been numerous negative rumors about our marriage and our relationship, all of which have caused us, our children, and our families undue stress, strain, and unnecessary tension.

In order to dispel all these unfounded innuendos, we now publicly declare, in the simplest and clearest terms that:

WE ARE STILL TOGETHER, we have not separated, we love each other, and we both value and cherish our marriage and relationship.

Any issues that we may have are private, and do not detract from, nor diminish, the strength of our marriage. We ask that the public allow us to deal with our minor concerns without the glare and glee of media speculation that only hurt us and those we love.

We are both deeply committed to our two (2) children, whom we love unconditionally. As concerned and devoted parents, we shall zealously protect their privacy, and their right to be untouched by malice and gossip. We plead with the public to respect their rights: they are innocent children unjustly harmed by the baseless gossip about us.

We hope this JOINT STATEMENT settles and lays to rest all questions about us as a couple, and as individuals."

KC Concepcion to Meet Piolo Pascual in New York

KC Concepcion and Piolo Pascual were supposed to celebrate their first year anniversary as a couple last October 21 but there are speculations that they have broken up even before that date.

The rumor was heightened when KC Concepcion left for her European vacation last October 5. In a short interview before boarding the plane, the actress said she needed time to "think about things" referring to her love troubles with boyfriend Piolo Pascual.

“Kelangan ko lang ng oras sa sarili ko. Sa dami ng nangyari kelangan ko lang mag-isip talaga. Alam mo yun, bumabalik ako na buo pa rin yung ako,” she said.

When asked if she and Piolo are still together as a couple, KC said “’Di ko alam, ‘di ko alam basta kailangan ko ng time [para] mag-isip lang talaga."

KC went to Nerja and Costa Del Sol where she spent her "soul searching." She also attended the wedding of her magazine editor friend Lois Alba. She then went to Paris, where she went to college and met up with old friends.

KC returned to Manila last October 13 but left for Los Angeles, California the following day to attend the fundraising event for Bill Clinton’s 65th birthday with her mom Sharon Cuneta.

KC Concepcion is now in New York with boyfriend Piolo Pascual for their "Piolo and KC Live in Concert with Yeng Constatino" US tour which starts this Friday. This is a good opportunity for the power couple to discuss the status of their relationship.

Do you think KC and Piolo will reconcile after they took a month-long "cool off" from their troubled relationship? Or do you think they've already broken up?

Piolo & KC will perform at the Tribeca Performing Arts this October 28 with Yeng Constantino. You can also catch them in Chicago's Pickwick Theater on October 29, Shrine Auditorium in LA on November 4 and Jame Logan High School in San Francisco on November 6.

The award-winning actor, however, denied that there's a third party involved and he did not say any comment to the question if they broke up already or not.

PEP, however, reported on Monday that according to an unnamed reliable source, Shaina and John Lloyd have indeed broken up. It was allegedly ignited after Cruz' communication with former girlfriend Ruffa Gutierrez resumed.

Shaina's jealousy reportedly ignited a fight between the couple which eventually resulted to a break-up.

El Gamma Penumbra Robbed of the PGT Title?

El Gamma Penumbra was the crowd favorite to win Pilipinas Got Talent season 3 last weekend because their performance showcased not just creativity but nationalism as well.

However during the results night last Sunday, El Gamma Penumbra did not even make it to the Top 3 while The Maasinhon Trio was declared the winner.

This prompted netizens to express their disappointment on the results via Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites.

Was El Gamma Penumbra robbed of the title?

ABS-CBN has released an official statement regarding this matter.

This is what they've sent via email yesterday:

“The winners of “Pilipinas Got Talent” are determined by the number of text and online votes that they receive during the grand finals. All 12 grand finalists are talented and deserving to win, but in the end, it was the Maasinhon Trio, who got the most votes from the viewing public followed by Khalil Ramos and the Bringas Brothers. ‘Pilipinas Got Talent’ is a celebration of the many talents of Filipinos. The voting public has spoken and let us respect the decision of the viewers. We congratulate the winners and the other grand finalists.”

Bong Osorio
ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Head

The issue should now be closed as the The Maasinhon Trio won fair and square because they received the most number of votes, right? And that's the rule of the "Got Talent" franchise, the majority will decide for the winner.

Once again, here is the performance of "El Gamma Penumbra" during the grand finals last Saturday:

Coming Out of the Closet in 'Patrol ng Pilipino'

Even though homosexuals are increasingly gaining acceptance in Philippine society, the country’s conservative culture and the Catholic Church’s strong disapproval of them make it hard for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender individuals (LGBT) to “come out.”

This is even harder for young people who go through a period of confusion and insecurity for feeling different at such a young age.

For its month-long anniversary special’s first offering, “Patrol ng Pilipino” will explore tomorrow (October 25) the intricate lives of young homosexuals as part of a family and the community – from experiencing identity crisis to openly declaring they belong to the third sex.

Sol Aragones will feature two minors who have confessed to their families that they are gay and see how they have been able to live through people’s judgment.

Learn how parents can reach out to their homosexual child so they don’t feel left out and to help them reach their full potential.

Meanwhile, “Patrol ng Pilipino” received a special citation for Best News Magazine in the recently concluded 33rd Catholic Mass Media Awards.

All these and more in “Patrol ng Pilipino” tomorrow after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN, or watch it earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable ch. 26), 9:15 PM.

Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3 Grand Finals - Our Fearless Forecast

Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3 Grand Finals Results Night is happening in a couple of hours from now and we've kinda decided on who we want to win.

From the twelve diverse acts coming from twelve different parts of the country which competed in the grand showdown of talents last night in “Pilipinas Got Talent,” there were two performances that could bring home the P2 million cash prize.

On top of our list is

El Gamma Penumbra:

Our second pick is...

Synergy

Since Kris Aquino mentioned in one of the previous episodes that the show is titled "Pilipinas Got Talent" and not "Pilipinas Got Singing Talent", and since season 1 and season 2 winners were both singers (Jovit Baldivino and Marcelito Pomoy) they may be looking for a non-singing act this season.

The other "non-singing" acts in the grand finals were:

Loverkada Kids of Butuan City
Lucky Twins of Tacloban

Meanwhile, two acts can be considered singing but somewhat different in a way: They are Twin Divas of Nueva Ecija because they also dance, and Kiriko of Laguna because they rap.

The rest falls, as usual, in the singing category.

But of course, the people will still decide for the winner, regardless if it's a singing or a non-singing act.

But in our opinion, it would be great to see a non-singing act this time for a change. And the group "El Gamma Penumbra" clearly deserves the prize.

Taal Volcano 'Hollywood-Like' Landmark Proposed

Taal Volcano might soon get a "Hollywood-like" make-over.

Taal Volcano

No less than the Star for All Seasons and Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto has proposed to erect a Hollywood-like landmark at the Taal Volcano with the word "Batangas."

According to Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste II, the Batangas provincial council has approved the resolution last October 5 in what they call a "hard-to-miss landmark and potential tourism draw” on the province's famous attraction.

The Vice Governor said the "Batangas" signage would measure 14 meters tall and 110 meters wide using the same font as that of the iconic Hollywood sign in California, USA.

Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham Tolentino, on the other hand, is not in favor of the Hollywood-inspired landmark for the island.

“Why put up a Batangas sign? It won’t help. People, while sipping a cup of coffee, will just say that the view is more beautiful from Tagaytay without that sign,” the mayor said in disagreement.

Spirit Day Today, October 20

Spirit Day Today, October 20

According to the Wikipedia, Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan promulgated the observance of a new commemoration called "Spirit Day," the first observance of which took place on October 20, 2010, in which people wear the color purple to show support for LGBT young people who are victims of bullying. Promoted by GLAAD or the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, many Hollywood celebrities wore purple on this day to show their support of this cause, and many websites added a prominent purple shade to their design.
The name, Spirit Day comes from the purple stripe of the Rainbow Flag, defined by Gilbert Baker, creator of that flag, as 'representing "spirit"'.

The observance was inaugurated in response to a rash of widely-publicized bullying-related suicides of gay school students in 2010, including that of Tyler Clementi.

Over 1.6 million Facebook users signed up for the event globally.

Anne Curtis Unleashes Her Other 'Talents' on Showtime

Anne Curtis is not just an actress, a covergirl, a host and recording artist. During the 2nd anniversary presentation of "Showtime" last October 19, Anne surprised everyone when she showed them that she has more to offer.

The "madlang people" and the "hurados" composed of celebrity cosmetic surgeons Vicki Belo and Manny Calayan, entrepreneur Joel Cruz, celebrity stylist Liz Uy, and director Cathy Garcia-Molina, were all in awe after Anne showcased her pole and air dancing abilities.

And that's not all. She also sang “Someone Like You” while being pulled upside down. She capped the performance by singing Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" before plunging into a tub full of water.

Karen Investigates Causes of Flooding in 'Krusada'

Due to their proximity to Pampanga River, floods are a natural occurrence in some towns in Bulacan and Pampanga. However, the heavy flooding brought by typhoons Pedring and Quiel in some towns last September and early October was unforeseen.

Tonight (October 20) in “Krusada,” Karen Davila will explain how anthropogenic activities such as irresponsible garbage disposal and deforestation led to the overflowing of rivers, which caused extremely high flood water levels in these areas.

Karen will also survey the country's waterways system and consult with an expert on how fishponds and deep wells contribute to the problem of flooding.

How do we take care of our rivers so flooding can be prevented?

Find out tonight (October 20) in “Krusada” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN, or catch it earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Ch. 26), 9:15 pm. Listen, take part and be one with Karen’s crusade because it takes more than words to make a stand.

Siri, the voice activated "assistant" integrated into Apple's new iPhone 4S, is getting rave reviews.

Siri is getting popular because it uses natural language processing to response to questions, make searches and recommendations, and perform actions by delegating requests to other iPhone applications (calendar, email, text messaging, etc), kinda like a robot if you must.

According to Apple, "Siri on iPhone 4S lets you use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, and more. Ask Siri to do things just by talking the way you talk. Siri understands what you say, knows what you mean, and even talks back. Siri is so easy to use and does so much, you’ll keep finding more and more ways to use it."
