New Loch Ness Photo Released!

New Loch Ness Photo taken by popular Loch Ness monster hunter George Edwards has been released to the media.

George Edwards, a popular Loch Ness hunter from Scotland, has released a photo of a bump on the water in what he believed as the mythological creature "Loch Ness" monster. The photo is now spreading on various international news sites, blogs and social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

According to reports, the photograph was taken by Edwards on November 2, 2011 from the deck of his boat named “Nessie Hunter.”

“It was slowly moving up the loch towards Urquhart Castle and it was a dark grey colour. It was quite a fair way from the boat, probably about half a mile away but it’s difficult to tell in water,” Edwards reportedly said.

Edwards explained that it took him several months before he release the photograph because he had it examined by “experts” first.

“I did not want to mention my sighting until I was sure that I had not photographed a log or something inanimate in the water. I have friends in the USA who have friends in the military. They had my photo analysed and they have no doubt that I photographed an animate object in the water.I was really excited as I am sure that some strange creatures are lurking in the depths of Loch Ness,” he said.

Apple Announcement: iOS 6, MacBook Pro and Air

Apple announcement: New Apple MacBook Pro and Air and the world's most advanced mobile software, the iOS 6!

The Apple announcement in the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco on Monday, June 11, is highly anticipated by gadget aficionados in America, ABC News reported.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is expected to preview the new iPhone software: the iOS 6, dubbed as the world's most advanced mobile operating system, and the new Apple MacBook Pro and Air laptops, when he kicks off the company’s annual conference for software developers on Monday.

It's been a tradition that Apple makes their major announcement in the annual Worldwide Developers Conference and this year, Cook is expected tor reveal the new features the iOS 6 has to offer, why it's called the world's most advanced mobile software, and when will it become available to consumers.

It can be recalled that in 2010, Apple demonstrated the new iPhone 4 at the WWDC, but this year, the spotlight is on the iOS 6 software.

Last year, when the iOS 5 was introduced, "Siri" became an instant sensation. Believed to be another edge the Apple has from other smart phones, the virtual assistant that interprets voice commands and talks back to the user was a huge hit.

In the iOS 6, Apple is adding new features that many watchers find exciting. If Twitter integration was a highlight of iOS 5, many believes the iOS 6 will have an emphasis on Facebook and could make it easier to post Facebook status updates from within Apple’s apps.

But Cook isn't only talking iProducts. He is also expected to focus on Apple's laptops and desktops and "Mountain Lion," Apple's next version of its Mac operating system which is expected to go on sale this summer. Along with a preview of the new software, Apple is heavily rumored to release new MacBook Pros and Airs with brand new high-resolution Retina Displays. ABC News previously reported that the MacBook Pros will have Nvidia graphics and Intel's new Ivy Bridge processors.

The "Mountain Lion’s" main competition will be Microsoft's Windows 8.

Cook is also expected to announce new Mac models. Intel Corp. has just updated its processor line with faster, less power-hungry chips, and most of Apple’s Mac lines haven’t had a major update in a year.

Another speculation about the apple announcement is that the company could launch a full-blown TV set integrated with iTunes. Late company founder Steve Jobs hinted biographer Walter Isaacson that he wanted to remake the TV. Apple does sell an ‘‘Apple TV,’’ but it’s small box that connects to a TV to display movies from iTunes. There’s much speculation that Apple plans to make a full-blown TV set, integrated with iTunes.

Few company watchers expect Apple to reveal such a set at WWDC, but there’s broad speculation that it could make a minor step toward Jobs’ goal by releasing updated software for the Apple TV, expanding on its relatively limited functions.

Identical Triplets Born in Pennsylvania

Identical triplets were born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on June 5, 2012.

Identical triplets are so rare that according to reports, it only happens once in 500,000 pregnancies.

But Last June 5 at Portland's Randall Children Hospital, Jessica Beasly gave birth to three identical boys, one minute apart.

Named Daniel Jeffrey, Ryder James and Garrett Cambell, the identical triplets arrived more than three months before they're supposed to be born.

“It’s one day at a time. You don’t know what to expect but right now everything is good,” said their smiling Mom Jessica.

“We’re watching their breathing and making sure that their airways stay open,” explained NICU nurse Larissa Raze.

The Beasly triplets have two siblings, Zachary who is only 2 years old and Sophia, 4.

The triplets are still inside a preemie crib that delivers a womb like atmosphere with heat and humidity and are only opened for check ups and diaper changes every four hours.

“I have gotten to take their temperature and change a few diapers,” said Jessica.

The triplets will spend 6 to 12 weeks at Randall Children’s Hospital. Then Jessica and her husband Eric are ready to raise 5 children under the age of 5.

NASA new discovery: Arctic Rainforest Flourishing (Video)

NASA new discovery: Phytoplankton blooms flourishing under thick layers of Arctic ice were discovered by researchers, Universe Today reported on Thursday.

NASA scientists compare the new discovery to a rainforest in the middle of the dessert, upending preconceptions about Artic ecosystems. At first look, the Artic is perceived to consist barren ice all over and nothing else. But after the unexpected find, all preconceptions about the Artic were shattered as it can host huge bright green blooms of microscopic plantlike organisms underneath it suggesting that the Arctic Ocean is far more productive than previously thought.

Kevin Arrigo, the leader of the ICESCAPE mission, said their expedition was a complete surprise.

“If someone had asked me before the expedition whether we would see under-ice blooms, I would have told them it was impossible,” he said.

ICESCAPE stands for Impacts of Climate on EcoSystems and Chemistry of the Arctic Pacific Environment. In 2010 and 2011, this group of scientists explored Arctic waters in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas along Alaska’s western and northern coasts onboard a U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker. The researchers drilled down through three-foot thick sea ice to study impacts of environmental variability and change in the Arctic on the ocean biology, ecology and biogeochemistry.

And according to their latest discovery, Phytoplankton blooms spring up in the Arctic during the summer, when the sun is constantly above the horizon. The group is assuming that the growth and amount of phytoplankton was negligible in waters beneath the ice there, although there were hints of phytoplankton blooms under the ice in the Barents and Beaufort seas and the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.

As it turns out, phytoplankton not only flourishes under thick layers of ice, but grows in numbers about four times higher under the ice than in the open water.

"The idea that phytoplankton can not only bloom under 3-foot-thick ice but that they can reach numbers that put their open-water counterparts to shame was a complete surprise," Arrigo told OurAmazingPlanet. "It means we have to rethink many of our ideas about how the Arctic Ocean ecosystems function."

Stealth Destroyer: A Super Battleship, US Navy's Answer to Rising China

Stealth Destroyer is a $3.1 billion super warship by the US Navy that is believed to be America's answer to China.

With the rising power of the Chinese military, the US Navy has unleashed a super warship called Stealth Destroyer, we've thought only exists in sci-fi movies.

The Stealth Destroyer has the ability to sneak up on coastlines virtually undetected and pound targets with electromagnetic "railguns," which uses a magnetic field and electric current to fire a projectile at several times the speed of sound.

The first of new warships to be delivered in 2014, the Stealth Destroyer costs more than $3 billion and boasts of the most advanced destroyer in history: a silver bullet of stealth. The Pentagon believes this warship is a perfect fit for Asia and the Pacific, the most strategically important region in the world.

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert said the Stealth Destroyer is the future of the US Navy.

"With its stealth, incredibly capable sonar system, strike capability and lower manning requirements — this is our future," he said.

Despite its sky-high cost, the Navy claims the Stealth Destroyer is money well spent. The rise of China has been cited as the best reason for keeping the revolutionary ship afloat, although the specifics of where it will be deployed have yet to be announced. Navy officials also say the technologies developed for the ship will inevitably be used in other vessels in the decades ahead.

However, with the destroyer's $3.1 billion price tag, the Navy's target of 32 warships was cut to 24, then seven.

$1 Felony Case Stirs Mix Reactions from Netizens

$1 Felony charge against Mark Abaire for not paying a $1 soda at McDonald's stirs various reactions from the micro-blogging site Twitter.

Last Thursday, 52-year-old Abaire pour a soda in a courtesy cup (being used only for water), went to sit outside without paying at the cashier.

The local manager approached him and asked him to pay $1 but he refused. His alibi: a courtesy cup was given to him by a staff after he asked for water. But since water is not available, he opted for the beverage that will cost him less money: the $1 soda.

After being cursed by Abaire, the manager called the sheriff nearby, who arrested the 52-year-old and charged him with $1 felony, instead of just petty theft.

The incident hit the headlines and now netizens posted different reactions regarding the matter.

Here are some of them:

@GearyAgent99 (Jackson Geary)
"A man faces a felony charge and is still imprisoned after not paying for a $1 cup of soda from McDonald’s….wow."

@ebrown08 (Mr. GRIND)
"How you get a felony held on $6,500 for allegedly stealing $1 cup of soda from McDonald’s?? WHAT???"

@SighWTF (Kat)
"Once again, stupid headline. This is why no one trusts the media anymore. He was a stupid criminal."

@OccupyUmd (Occupy UMD)
"Good work officer! Fill the jails with more dangerous $1 coke stealers like this guy! http://t.co/WUpp9hEY Really?"

@MichaelMcClead (Michael McClead)
"@McDonalds I’ll pay 4 this guys soda if you drop your charges against him 4 his unfathomable crime of stealing a $1 pop"

You may think the felony case being charged to Abaire is too much, right? This is because Abaire had a couple of petty theft convictions already in the past and hitting the “three strikes” law in Florida aggravates the crime.

In the defense of some people's claim that what McDonald's did to Abaire was uncalled for and unjust, the owner of McDonald’s in East Naples issued the following statement:

“I take these matters seriously. As a local business owner, I have a responsibility to take appropriate steps to protect my business and keep my customers and employees safe.”

Furthermore, the owner also pointed out that Abaire was issued a trespass warning at the same McDonald’s in 2008.

Brown Recluse Spider Spreads Fear After It Nearly Blinds Texas Student

Brown recluse spider is now causing arachnophobia to some people after the news about how it nearly blinds a girl from Texas surfaced.

[Brown recluse spider photo: graftedno1]

The brown recluse spider is now considered more dangerous than the highly-dreaded black widow because of the way its venom affects the human victim and not just how poisonous it is.

A bite from the brown recluse spider causes necrosis, a premature death of cells in living tissue (treated via surgery), and this is why people should avoid this spider at all cost.

Bites from the brown recluse can be excruciating and it takes months before it heals. Aside from the nasty scar, typical side effects of the attack include dizziness, fever and muscle soreness.

Few deaths were reported as a result of getting bitten, mostly children and elderly individuals.

A study by graduate student Erin Saupe of University of Kansas predicted that the brown recluse spider is slowly spreading in the US. By 2020, by using computer modeling, the possible migration of these spiders can move towards Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and New York.

The brown recluse became popular after the report on a student from Texas named Nikki Perez surfaced. Perez was bitten at the Amarillo airport last September 2011 and lost part of her ear and nearly lost her eye sight after being hospitalized for 5 days.

Oldest Living Thing - Neptune Grass Trumps Tasmanian Plant

The oldest living thing in our planet is no longer the 43,000 year-old Tasmanian plant. The oldest living thing, scientists say, are in the family of seaweeds and seagrass.

[oldest living thing photo credit: Alberto Romeo]

Australian scientists have discovered that the oldest living thing or oldest living organism in the planet is the giant patches of seagrass found in the Mediterranean sea which is believed to be 200,000-year-old.

In a report by the Huffington Post, scientists was able to determine the age of the oldest living thing by a process called "DNA sequencing," or ascertaining 40 different sites over a 2,000 mile range from Cyprus to Spain.

Scientifically named Posidonia oceanica or commonly known as Mediterranean tapeweed or Neptune Grass, the patches of seagrass was between 12,000 and 200,000 years old and was most likely to be at least 100,000 years old beating the current holder of the title "oldest living thing," which is the Tasmanian plant.

Posidonia oceanica is a seagrass species that is endemic to the Mediterranean Sea. It forms large underwater meadows that are an important part of the ecosystem. The fruit is free floating and known in Italy as 'the olive of the sea'. Balls of fibrous material from its foliage, known as egagropili, wash up to nearby shorelines. It may be one of the largest and oldest clonal colonies on Earth

7.3 Quake Jolts Indonesia, Tsunami Warning Issued after the Quake (Video)

7.3 quake hits west of Sumatra, Indonesia west of Jakarta around 12:37 a.m. today, January 11 (January 10 US Time) according to online reports.

The 7.3 magnitude earthquake also prompted the local authorities to issue a tsunami warning causing people to flee their homes. This is despite the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration posted a bulletin discounting a tsunami threat.

The local tsunami warning was lifted at 3 a.m.

According to the United States Geological Survey or USGS, the quake's epicenter was located about 420 kilometers (260 miles) southwest of Banda Aceh at a dept of 29 kilometers.

No damage or injuries were immediately reported.

Indonesia, just like the Philippines, is part of the "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanoes and fault lines surrounding the Pacific Basin which make the country frequent to earthquakes.

Last 2010 alone, a 7.5 magnitude quake struck the Kepulauan Mentawai region of Indonesia leaving 113 people dead and 150 missing.

And in 2009, a 7.6 magnitude quake jolted the same area leaving more than 1,000 people dead in Padang.

It can be remembered that the great tsunami last 2004 also affected the northern Sumatra of Indonesia amongst 12 countries leaving 220,000 people dead or missing in the region.

Palin Endorsement Goes to Newt Gingrich!

Palin endorsement, the least desired endorsement among political candidates, went to Newt Gingrich.

Todd Palin is former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's husband and the 2008 vice-presidential nominee of the Republican Party. His endorsement of Newt Gingrich as President made political watchers snicker.

In a report by ABC News, Todd Palin has aired his support for the former House speaker for the Republican presidential nomination on Monday.

In s statement, Palin said "Newt Gingrich is a true leader, which he has proven not only since the beginning of his campaign, but throughout his career."

He added: "Just like Sarah, Newt has faced many successes and challenges. Despite his consultants leaving him last summer, Newt is still standing because of his ideas and his success in the debates - not by spending millions of dollars in campaign ads."

Gingrich later told a crowd in New Hampshire of the news, saying that he "really appreciated" it and even tweeted later that he is "honored" for the endorsement.

Car of the Year and Truck of the Year in North America Named

Car of the Year, according to 50 automotive journalists in North America, is none other than Hyundai Elantra.

Car of the Year winner was announced at a news conference at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Sunday where 50 independent automotive journalists served as jury.

They picked the 2012 Hyundai Elantra as winner for its bold fluidic sculpture design, fuel economy, and highest buyer satisfaction rate.

The Hyundai Elantra, also known as Hyundai Avante in Korea, is a compact car from Hyundai of South Korea launched in October 1990 for the 1991 model year, and now in its fifth generation.

The Elantra was formerly marketed as the Lantra in Australia and some European markets. In Australia, this was due to the similarly named Mitsubishi Magna Elante model. This gave rise to disagreement from other motor manufacturers, and the name was standardized as "Elantra" worldwide in 2001 (with the exception being Korea and Malaysia still selling under the name "Avante").

Launched in 1990, the Elantra received a mid-term facelift in 1993. It was powered by a Mitsubishi-designed 1.6 L (1596 cc) straight-4 that could push the car to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 9.5 seconds.

The second generation was launched in 1995, and was offered as a sedan and station wagon. It was sold in the South Korean market as the "Hyundai Avante" in sedan form and "Avante Touring" in the wagon body style. Some export markets such as Australia and Europe received the series as the "Hyundai Lantra" as per the first generation. Australian market wagons were titled "Lantra Sportswagon". Between 1996 and 1998, the Elantra was marketed as the "Bimantara Nenggala" (1.8-liter petrol) in Indonesia.

In Europe, 1996 through 1997 sedan models had carried a silver Mercury-type false grille, whereas wagon carried no front grille by not featuring this covering.

The Hyundai Elantra/Lantra received newer grilles in 1998 for the 1998 model year. The Lantra in Europe now converged into a single-front end design, with the sedan and wagon no longer featuring different front-end designs. The facelift model received the "RD2" or "J3" model codes.

A new 2.0-liter engine option became available with the facelift model. In Australia the GLS model was an upgrade on the GL model, and offered the 2.0-litre engine, velour trim, softer cloth seats, and alloy wheels. Also the GLS had body colored rear license plate light holder and exterior side-view mirrors.

An all-new model (third generation) was launched in 2000. The wagon was dropped in favor of a five-door hatchback. Starting in 2001, all American models came with standard front and front-side airbags, air conditioning, power locks, power windows, and power steering. This simplified dealer inventories and repairs and also sought to improve Hyundai's image of "value" cars. In 2003, the Elantra received a facelift for all models; this introduced new headlights and taillights, a new grille, new front and rear bumpers, a refreshed hood and trunk, and a redesigned dashboard.

While compact on the outside, it is listed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency? as a mid-size car because of a spacious interior. Although the basic powertrain design has changed little since the second generation, successive improvements have improved fuel economy.

The latest generation Elantra (2012) is powered by an all-new 1.8-liter Nu four-cylinder engine with 148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque (145 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque for Elantra PZEV). Most Elantras sold in California , Oregon and several Northeast states are certified as Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) by the EPA. The PZEV Elantra is as clean as many hybrid electric vehicles. The PZEV Elantra helps Hyundai meet its environmental commitments. Outside of these "green" states, the Elantra is available as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV).

This is actually Hyundai's second Car of the Year win. The Hyundai Genesis was named North American Car of the Year in 2009.

Meanwhile, the Truck of the Year award went to the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque beating the BMW X3 and the Honda CR-V.

Mount Etna Eruption Captured on Video

Mount Etna Eruption Captured on Video

Mount Etna, the most active volcano in Europe which is located in Sicily, Italy, has erupted for the first time this year.

Mount Etna is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, close to Messina and Catania. It is the tallest active volcano in Europe, aside from being most active, which measures 3,329 meters or 10,922 feet high, though this varies with summit eruptions. The said volcano is 21 meters (69 ft) higher than it was in 1981.

Mount Etna is the highest mountain in Italy south of the Alps. Etna covers an area of 1,190 km² (460 sq mi) with a basal circumference of 140 km. This makes it by far the largest of the three active volcanoes in Italy, being about two and a half times the height of the next largest, Mount Vesuvius. Only Mount Teide in Tenerife surpasses it in the whole of the European-North-African region.

Mount Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and is in an almost constant state of activity. The fertile volcanic soils support extensive agriculture, with vineyards and orchards spread across the lower slopes of the mountain and the broad Plain of Catania to the south. Due to its history of recent activity and nearby population, Mount Etna has been designated a Decade Volcano by the United Nations

On Friday, Mount Etna spewed ash and plumes of bright orange lava up-to five kilometers in the air.

Despite the eruption, it was said that the volcano is posing no threat to locals living nearby and no flights have been disrupted so far.

Manny Pacquiao and His New P25-M Yacht Stir Controversy

Manny Pacquiao is currently being criticized by netizens for buying a luxurious P25-million yacht as a Christmas gift to his family.

This is after the pound for pound king toured the media inside his new Italian-made yacht named "Sarangani's Pride"--considered to be the "Ferrari" of yachts.

Some netizens did not appreciate the way Pacquiao announced the procurement of the yacht while thousands are suffering due to damages caused by tropical storm Sendong.

But in fairness to Pacquiao, he slashed P1-million from his pork barrel to help Sendong victims.

In an interview by ABS-CBNNews.com, the Saranggani Representative shared that he sent in his staff to the badly-hit areas of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City.

"Kinausap ko ang mga staff ko ngayon, magpadala ng relief goods para makatulong sa ating mga kababayan doon," Pacquiao said.
, is Pacquiao's surprise treat to his family following his successful bout against Mexican champion Juan Manuel Marquez last November 12.

"Regalo ko sa pamilya ko at sa mga kids ko, wife ko after ng fight," he said.

It carries 3 jet skis, worth P1 million each, and it can travel from Sarangani to Manila in a day-and-a-half.

Pacquiao's wife, Jinkee, said they had been dreaming of owning a yacht for sometime now.

"Andaming blessing na dumating atsaka 'yung yate, iniisip lang namin dati na kelan kaya kami magkakaroon ng ganyan? Tapos ngayon, eto na," she said.

Pacquiao said he and his family will have plenty of bonding time while riding the yacht.

Valerie Concepcion on PNoy's Partying in the Midst of Tragedy: 'I Don't See Anything Wrong With That'

Valerie Concepcion is on the hot seat after tweeting last Sunday that President Noynoy Aquino is having a great time during the Presidential Security Group's (PSG) Christmas party where she was invited to perform.

Valerie Concepcion

Here is Valerie Concepcion's tweet after her performance:

“Done w/ work.. Tnx for having me.. It was nice to see Pres. P-Noy laughing at my jokes & enjoying my performance..ü #Malacañang #PSGNight”

The said tweet ignited violent reactions from netizens who criticized the President for the "inappropriate" act in the midst of the tragedy in Mindanao that claimed more than 500 lives.

Valerie deleted the controversial tweet and posted a new message in defense of the President:

“I do not see anything wrong with that since its his obligation and responsibility being the head of Malacañang to be present and show his support for his hardworking employees and their respective families. But I believe that it doesn’t mean that the president is not thinking of ways to help our kababayan(s) in Mindanao. It doesn’t mean that the president is disregarding the plight of our fellow Filipinos”

On her next tweet, the actress appealed to the people not to judge the President. She also apologized for the people who got offended by her previous message:

“Let’s not be too quick to judge. But if I, in any way, offended you guys and sounded insensitive, I am very sorry. It wasn’t my intention to do either. I can’t imagine how difficult life is for the people affected in Mindanao and how difficult it is to be the president of the Philippines at this moment. Once again, I am very sorry for all those people I have offended. May God bless us all”

Meanwhile, Presidential Communication Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO) head Ricky Carandang said on Monday that “the President dropped by the PSG party for a few minutes.”

He added that the PSG Christmas party was supposed to be cancelled because of the situation in Mindanao but they decided to push through with the party because their relatives from the province already traveled to Manila just to attend.
Cockroach That Jumps: New Species 'Leaproach' is a Jumping Cockroach

Cockroach That Jumps: New Species 'Leaproach' is a Jumping Cockroach

Cockroach that jumps is a species of cockroach that has just been discovered according to a report by Biology Letters on December 14.

The cockroach is called "leaproach" with the scientific name Saltoblattella montistabularis and it has been discovered in South Africa. The jumping cockroach can jump 50 times the length of its body which makes it special from other species of the dreaded pest insect.

The leaproach's hind legs are twice the length of its other legs and make up 10 percent of their total body weight. Its sturdy antennae, on the other hand, help stabilize the insect at it leaps.

Zoologist Mike Picker is the one responsible for the discovery of the cockroach that jumps while he was hunting for a fly larvae in the Table Mountain nature reserve.
