FIBA Asia 2011 Results: Smart Gilas Pilipinas Loses Bronze to Korea
FIBA Asia 2011 bronze medal went to Korea, Smart Gilas Pilipinas settled for 4th.
Smart Gilas Pilipinas lost to Korea on Sunday, September 25, in the bronze medal match at the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship in Wuhan, China. Their final scores were 68-70 in favor of the Korean team.
Apart from the medal, the Philippine team also lost the slot in the qualifying tournament for the 2012 London Olympics as only medal winners for the FIBA Asia 2011 will advance and these are teams from China, Jordan and Korea.
China and Jordan will battle for the gold tonight.
Smart Gilas Pilipinas' stint this year was the Philippine team's best performance at the FIBA Asia Championship since 1987 in Bangkok when they also finished fourth overall.
Team Philippines has been champion of the FIBA Asia Basketball Championship 5 times: 1960, 1963, 1967, 1973, and 1985.
if toroman had just let alapag played til the end of the game they could have won the bronze medal. But more importantly, of course, if douhtit, lassiter and williams had completed all the crucial free throws, we could have ateast continue our campaign towards the 2012 london olympics. That was supposed to be the most important free throws in the history of Philippine basketball. Well, sad to say, they weren't even a real Filipino.
