This is actually the Philippines third time to finish third in the basketball tournament. The first one was in 2005 and the second was in 2007.
However, in the last century, the Philippines emerged triumphant in the Jones Cup three times! They won the title in 1981 with NCC, also in 1985 with San Miguel Beer and in 1998 with the Centennial Team.
congratulations to SmartGilas team ! its a pity that they only place third after beating the defending champion Iran powered by a behemoth who is also an nba veteran having played for the Memphis Grizzlies. Kudos to Marcus Douthit for having played a tremendous game always and congratulations to the rest of the team member. We are proud of you!
