Eumir Felix Marcial Wins PHL's 1st World Junior Boxing Championship Gold
Another great story for Philippine Sports last weekend is Eumir Felix Marcial's triumph at the World Junior Boxing Championships.
Eumir Felix Marcial edged Turkey’s Cengiz Onat to nab the gold in the Aiba World Junior Boxing Championship Saturday.
The 15-year-old Marcial, hailing from Zamboanga City, is the first Filipino to win gold since the competition’s first staging in 2001.
The southpaw Marcial, standing at five-foot-seven, dominated the match with a 9-7 decision in favor of the Filipino lad in the bout held at the Kazakhstan Sports Palace in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Marcial previously defeated Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus en route to the championship round.
Although the Philippine Sports Commission didn’t support the campaign of Marcial, Manny Pangilinan rewarded the kid from Zamboanga with a P300,000 incentive.
