Sheryl Crow has Brain Tumor

Sheryl Crow is diagnosed with brain tumor. The 50-year-old singer-songwriter said on Facebook that "she doesn't have to worry about it."

According to an interview by CNN on Tuesday, Sheryl Crow describes her diagnosis of having a brain tumor as a "bump in the road."

The singer-songwriter posted a message on her Facebook account for her fans to read:

"Please don't worry about my 'brain tumor,' it's a noncancerous growth. I know some folks can have problems with this kind of thing, but I want to assure everyone I'm OK."

"Really appreciate everyone's love and concern, I feel so blessed to have the support of all my fans, but I'm good -- really!"

It's interesting to note that Crow was a breast cancer survivor. She was treated at a Los Angeles-based facility by breast cancer surgeon Kristi Funk in 2006. The singer had "minimally invasive" surgery in late February 2006, followed by radiation therapy.

CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta, a practicing neurosurgeon, said Crow's was diagnosed with meningioma, a common type of brain tumor, last November. However, the singer doesn't need surgery but will have periodic scans to monitor the growth

Gupta noted that celebrities who were diagnosed with the same disease were Elizabeth Taylor and Mary Tyler Moore.

"It's a tumor that typically grows between the outer layer of the brain and the brain itself. So it's not actually inside the brain," he said.

In Crow's case, the doctor said they need to take the wait-and-see approach in order to determine if she will need an operation or treatment.
