Leila de Lima Cautious in GMA's House Arrest
Leila de Lima, the Secretary of Justice, warned Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 112 Judge Jesus Mupas on Friday to be “extra careful” in granting the request of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for house arrest.
De Lima is not in favor of the house arrest because she said the administration wants to avoid the perception that it is giving special treatment to the former President.
“Is it not possible to have her detained in a facility with all needed amenities and that’s comfortable enough for her rather than house arrest?” De Lima said in an ambush interview.
Arroyo's lawyer Jose Flaminiano had asked the Pasay RTC to allow house arrest for the former President after doctors from the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig advised that she was fit to be discharged. They are set to file a motion for house arrest tomorrow, November 29.
