Brian Viloria to Defend WBO/WBA Unified Flyweight Boxing Title this Sunday
Filipino boxing champion Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria is set to defend his unified WBO and WBA Flyweight Championship title against Mexican boxer Juan “El Gallo” Estrada in the first professional boxing card that will happen in Macau this Sunday (April 7) airing live at 10:15 AM on ABS-CBN.
Estrada (22-2, 18 Kos) will be the first to challenge Viloria’s unified flyweight title in this much-awaited boxing match dubbed as “Rambulan sa Macau,” which will be held at the 15,000-seater Cotai Arena of the Venetian Casino and Resort.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Viloria expressed how confident he is to defend his unified title and once again make fellow Filipinos proud.
“There’s nothing more I can work on. I think I did all the work and training. And so right now I’ll just taper down and get on weight. I wish the fight was tonight,” said Viloria.
Viloria (32-3, 19 KOs), who was born in Ilocos Sur and was raised by his grandparents in Ilocos Norte before moving to Hawaii with his parents, earned his remarkable world title when he beat Mexican Hernan ‘Tyson’ Marquez last year in a fight card held at the Home Depot Center in California. He successfully defended his WBO flyweight title and at the same time captured the WBA flyweight title from Marquez, resulting in a unified title, which has not happened in boxing in almost 50 years.
Meanwhile, another Filipino boxer and current WBO International Flyweight Champion Milan “El Metodico” Melindo (27-0, 11 Kos) will play in the undercard lineup and go against Indonesian WBO Asia Pacific Light Flyweight champion Tommy Seran. This will be Melindo’s first ever fight under Top Rank Boxing that will introduce him to the international scene.
“This fight will determine my career. If I win, everyone will recognize me and my achievements in boxing and will give me a bigger chance to fight for the world title,” Melindo said in an interview with Cebu Daily News.
