Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista Wins by TKO Over Ruiz of Mexico
Charismatic Filipino featherweight fighter Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista finally gets retribution after defeating Mexican Heriberto Ruiz in the seventh-round of the featherweight bout via Technical Knock Out (TKO) late Saturday night at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu.
A gruesome cut on Bautista's scalp which he got during the sixth round via a head butt with Ruiz caused the stoppage of the fight at the 0:56 mark of the seventh round.
Since the cut was caused by a butt, the fight was ruled a technical decision victory for Bautista, because he led on all three scorecards earlier in the bout.
The scores are 69-65, 68-65 and 68-65 in favor of Bautista.
Ruiz protested the outcome but there were signs that the 33-year-old Mexican boxer was starting to fade towards the end of the bout.
