Filipinos to Set New World Record for the Most Number of Young Boys Participating in Mass Circumcision
The year has been good so far for Vice President Jejomar Binay. While the trust rating of President Noynoy Aquino continues to slip, Binay’s own rating is on a rise. Based on Pulse Asia's survey last March, Binay's trust rating rose to 81 percent from around 75 to 78 percent last October 2010.
Others attribute his high trust rating to his position being just a “shadow” of the president, thus getting less attention and flak. But Binay believes it is a true reflection of his performance as the country’s second “father.”
You be the judge this Tuesday (May 10) in “Patrol ng Pilipino.” Join ABS-CBN correspondent Sheryl Mundo as she gives us a close look at Binay at work and how the former Makati mayor handles criticisms and challenges to prove his capabilities as a public servant.
Meanwhile, be there when Filipinos attempt to set a world record for the most number of young boys participating in a mass circumcision. ABS-CBN correspondent Jeff Canoy will be in Marikina City to bring viewers the different stories behind this news event.
“Patrol ng Pilipino” airs every Tuesday night, after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.

The Guinness World Records, after learning of this attempt to have the mass circumcision of young boys in the Philippines put in their record book, has reassured several people that they fortunately will not be including this in their book.
ReplyDeleteThey wrote that they "are not recognizing this record attempt." In addition, they said that it is out of their "hands when people advertise that they are attempting a Guinness World Records. We definitely are not recognizing, nor do we condone this attempt."
Here is what I wrote to the Guinness World Records members:
"I am writing to request that you withdraw from your record book any mention of the mass circumcision of young boys, as was done in the
Philippines. Circumcision is a surgery that is not recommended by any national medical association in the world! It causes the deaths of
boys each year, and it is found to be offensive by many because of the human rights violation of children. Circumcision is a form of male genital mutilation and a form of sexual abuse, and it is not worthy of being added to the Guinness Book of World Records.
Just like females who have been forced to undergo female circumcision as children, many males are waking up to the fact today that they should not have been forced by adults to undergo male circumcision.
The Philippines is a predominantly Catholic country, but male circumcision violates Catholic teaching. They don't seem to be aware of this there.
This action to count mass male circumcisions is no more acceptable than would be the counting of mass female circumcisions, in countries like
Africa or the Middle East. Please do not promote such a practice, by allowing the actions of those who would treat children this way, and by recording this in your book. This will only encourage more children to be harmed by genital mutilation.
See these photos of Tuli- mass circumcisions in the Philippines. These disturbing photos show why this practice should not be counted as acceptable for inclusion in the Guinness Book of World Records."
