Nonito Donaire knocks out Fernando Montiel, wins Bantamweight Crowns!
Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire (26-1, 18 KOs) dethroned Mexican Ferdinand Montiel (44-3-2) in their fight called "Ang Pagtutuos" at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, on February 19 (Sunday morning in Manila).
Donaire stopped Montiel via technical knockout (KO) in the second round making him the first world title boxing winner for 2011. He just won the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization bantamweight crowns.
Donaire is now the no. 7 pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
Another Pinoy, Mark Jason "Mighty" Melligen, defeated Mexican Gabriel Martinez in the welterweight bout in the undercard match.
