Isaiah Antonio and AJ Tabaldo, Early Favorites to Win 'Kanta Pilipinas'?
Two heartthrobs are going to perform this Saturday on TV5's "Kanta Pilipinas." Former American Idol finalist AJ Tabaldo and YouTube sensation Isaiah Antonio. Can they make it to the show's Top 12?
2 male, 2 female, 1 group and 1 duo performed Last Saturday, February 9, during the pilot episode of "Kanta Pilipinas."
23-year-old Timmy Pavino from Parañque City started the show strong when Maestro Ryan Cayabyab described him as the "complete package" after his powerful rendition of Michael Bolton's "Go the Distance." Following Timmy was another good-looking contestant and she's 22-year-old Thara Therese Jordana whose version of Paramore's "The Only Exception" made a good impression to guest judge Vehnee Saturno.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Janeth Gomez showcased her vocal chops when she belted Nikka Costa's "On My Own." Mr C challenged her to pick a more difficult song next time. She was followed by the first group to take the stage--5az1--a boyband from Metro Manila. They performed the One Direction's hit ballad "More than This."
On the other hand, Giancarlo Baldonido from Sampaloc, Manila, touched Lani Misalucha with his rendition of "I'll Never Say Goodbye" by Melissa Manchester. Giancarlo is currently fighting cancer while in the competition.
The last to perform was brother and sister duo Carlo & Nicole David from Quezon City, the children of Jazz singer Mon David. Carlo is 24 years old while Nicole is 26. Their fresh take on Atlantic Starr's "Always" received rave reviews from the judges.
This Saturday, February 16, 6 more top auditionees will hit the stage for the chance to make it to Top 12. And two of them are early favorites.
YouTube sensation Isaiah Antonio will perform "She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5.
Isaiah became a household name after he uploaded the "Amalayer" song on YouTube which he composed and performed. It became a hit online and was able to grace "Gandang Gabi Vice" to perform the song on national television because of it.
Another favorite, AJ Tabaldo, will perform "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys this Saturday. American Idol followers are familiar with AJ because he made it to the Top 24 of the show's season 6, beter known as Jordin Sparks' year. AJ got eliminated during 'AI's' Top 20 night despite winning Simon Cowell with his rendition of Cy Grant's "Feeling Good."
Don't miss the second episode of Kanta Pilipinas this Saturday, January 16, at 9:00pm after Joey de Leon's "Hayop sa Galing" on TV5.
