Filipino Fighters Set to Showcase Boxing Greatness in 'Duel in Dubai 2'
Filipino fighters are all set to create boxing history once again as multi-faceted Pagara brothers, “Prince” Albert and Jason “El Niño” Pagara headline The Filipino Channel (TFC), ABS-CBN Sports + Action, and ALA promotions’ much-awaited and fiery match “Pinoy Pride 32: Duel in Dubai 2” in Dubai on August 7, Friday at the Dubai World Trade Center.
The Pagara brothers, who are both first timers in the international boxing ring, will square off with Mexican fighters Jesus “Chito” Rios and Ramiro “Xixime” Alcaraz armed with their Pinoy pride and in full fighting form.
The 21year-old Albert will face the 31 year-old Rios in the main event to defend his IBF Intercontinental Jr. Featherweight title. An orthodox fighter known for his aggressive loud punches, the undefeated Pagara who has a record of 23 wins, 16 of which he triumphed via knockouts (23-0, 16 KOs), is coming from a solid victory over Mexico’s Rodolfo Hernandez in March 2015 who plummeted in the opening round. Hernandez was made to retire in the fourth round when he complained of an injury and was unable to continue. Meantime, Rios who has a record of 31 wins, seven losses, and one draw (31-7-1, 25 KOs), is a ‘beast’ himself in the ring. He is coming off a first round technical knockout (TKO) over fellow Mexican Aram Valle last May in Mexico.
The older Pagara, Jason, meanwhile has a record of 35 wins and two losses (35-2, 22 KOs) and will scuffle against another rocky Mexican, Alcaraz, who has a record of 15 wins, four losses, and one draw (15-4-1, 9 KOs). The 23 year-old Pagara, who is known for his sweet yet powerful punches, is coming off a second round TKO against Mexican boxer, Cesar Chavez in February. The slugger Alcaraz, meanwhile, scored a TKO in his most recent fight last December against Jonas Olivas during the seventh round.
Also entering the squared arena in Dubai are Dumaguete City-born (Negros Oriental, Philippines) boxer Jimrex “Executioner” Jaca (39-8-4, 22 KOs) and
Dubai-based Filipino boxer Larry Abarra (3-2-1, 2 KOs) who will battle it out in the undercard matches against Mexico’s Pablo Lugo Montiel (21-5, 17 KOs) and Indonesia’s Tony Arema (3-6-1), respectively.
The Pagara brothers shared their exhilaration of being given the opportunity by ALA to show their ‘galing’ or greatness in boxing in a foreign country where a massive number of Filipinos will support them all the way. “I would like to thank our kababayans this early. You can expect my full fighting form or my 100% in this fight,” said the eldest Pagara.
Albert, meantime, mentioned in an exclusive interview with TFC that he is confident and more than ready to face his opponent on Friday. “I did my homework and studied my opponent. I am ready to show our fellow Filipinos the greatness and feistiness of the Filipino boxer in the Dubai ring.”
ALA promotions president and CEO Michael Aldeguer said that they brought another series of “Pinoy Pride” in the entertainment mecca of Middle East, Dubai, mainly because of the overwhelming support they have received during the first leg of the series outside the Philippines. “We truly appreciate the support we have been receiving from our dear overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), not just in the Middle East but around the world, who have close ties in the sport of boxing. Our vision to bring the sport of boxing closer to ourkababayans was definitely achieved during the first ‘Duel in Dubai’ and we are hoping for a greater response this year-round,” said Aldeguer.
He also added that aside from Dubai, ALA will continue to showcase the talents of Filipino greatness in boxing as their number of international matches start to grow.
