Brazil’s TV Globo and the Philippines' GMA Network have each received two nominations in the 2013 International Emmys in the News and Current Affairs categories.
GMA’s “I-Witness – Alkansiya” (Piggy Bank), about a boy in remote Eastern Samar who earns a measly living catching fish, collecting seashells and diving for sea cucumbers, were nominated in the Current Affairs category.
Vying in the same category are TV Globo’s “Enawene-nawe” (The Spirit-Men), “Banaz: An Honour Killing” (Britain) and “ZDFzoom – The Fukushima Lie” (Germany).
GMA’s “24 Oras”, on the other hand, bagged a nomination in the News category for its reporting on Typhoon Pablo. It will be up against TV Globo’s “Jornal Nacional,” Romania’s “ProTV News,” and Britain’s Channel 4 News.
The winners will be announced in New York on October 1, 2013.
