Cue Master Dennis 'Robocop' Orcullo arrives $40,000 richer
Filipino cue master Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo arrived in Manila at dawn Monday, $40,000 richer and fresh from his championship win in the Qatar 9-Ball Invitational Championship over the weekend.
Orcollo defeated Niels Feijen of The Netherlands, 13-5, Saturday at the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation in Doha.
The champ's Qatar Airways flight touched down at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport shortly before 5 a.m.
Interviewed on ABS-CBN's "Umagang Kay Ganda" morning show, Orcollo said,"Sinuwerte ako, laking pasasalamat ko na nakuha ko 'yung game na 'yon."
Orcollo said the win came after he took advantage of Feijen's scoreless breaks.
"[Ang] nangyari, naunahan ko agad siya. Lumamang ako ng dalawa, minalas siya. Tuwing break siya, walang benta. Lagi akong nakakauna ng benta, nakalayo ako," he said.
The pride of Surigao del Sur quickly went down to business, taking a 4-2 lead against Feijen. The Filipino then zoomed to a 9-3.
Feijen won two of the next three racks but Orcollo blocked his opponent by clearing the following three racks to win the crown with a final score of 13-5.
Orcollo, who beat Warren Kiamco (11-6), Ramil Gallego (11-9) and Ralf Souquet (11-8) en route to the finals match with Feijen.
Top Pinoy cue artists Efren Bata Reyes, Alex Pagulayan and Ronnie Alcano also participated in the tournament but failed to make it to the finals.
With his win Saturday, Orcollo went up the ratings as the world's top-ranked billiards player.
He also rose in terms of winnings for the year, landing third in the list, according to AZBilliards.com.
