Fil-Brit Charlie Green Frontrunner on Britain's Got Talent

charlie-green.jpgAfter Madonna Decena, another frontrunner wowed the televiewers in England on the second episode of the reality talent competition "Britain's Got More Talent" and he's a Filipino-British lad by the name of Charlie Green.

Green's father, Roger, said that his wife, Cecilia Surmargo, hails from the Philippines' queen city - Cebu. That makes Charlie half-Filipino because Cecilia originated from Dumanjug is a Cebuana.

The 10-year-old boy from Droitwich, Worcestershire will advance to the semi-finals after receiving three "yeses" from the judges Simon Cowell, actress Amanda Holden and journalist Piers Morgan during the live audition at Manchester Theatre.

Charlie, born February 16, 1997, performed Frank Sinatra's "Summer Wind" and got a standing ovation from the audience and was praised by the show's judges.

Piers Morgan said, "You're not just a brilliant singer, you're also dancing... you got it all Charlie!" Amanda Holden said, "I predict you can win this show." Simon Cowell said, "Charlie you are fantastic. Charlie, I think you are a little star, I really, really like you."

Over 3,600 McDonalds employees from 53 countries participated in the 2008 Voice of McDonalds Global Singing Competition. The 3,600 entries were trimmed down to 35 semi-finalists and five of them are Filipinos! The 35 semi-finalists were being voted upon on the internet and the Top 14 who received the most number of votes advanced to the finals. 3 Filipinos made it to the Top 14.

Guess what? 2 Philippine tourist spots are currently making their mark in the Top 10.

Tirador Wins 3 Awards in the 21st Singapore International Filmfest

Brillante "Dante" Mendoza's Tirador (international title: Slingshot) won three major prizes in the 21st Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF). The awarding ceremony was held last Sunday, April 13, at the National Museum Theatre Gallery.

The social realist film that Director Dante shot in the slum areas of Quiapo was named Best Film at the Asian Feature Film category. Aside from this, Mendoza was also named as the Best Director.

14 Year-Old Wesley So Wins International Chess Tournament in Dubai

Wesly So, a 14 year old Filipino boy is being hailed as the youngest chess grandchampion upon the conclusion of the recent 10th Dubai Open International Chess Championship. The Dubai Open is also dubbed as “The Sheikh Rashed Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Cup“. So is now the youngest winner of the Dubai Open which for this year was participated in by 131 players from 25 countries.
