Department of Tourism Releases New Music Video 'Pilipinas, Tara Na!'
The Department of Tourism (DOT) recently launched the song “Pilipinas, Tara Na!” and music video featuring the country’s numerous tourist attractions, recorded by 57 of the country’s leading musical artists and entertainment personalities.
The success and popularity achieved by the DOT’s Biyahe Tayo! song and music video composed in 2004 prompted Perceptions, the team behind it, to do an updated and expanded version of the song for the Department’s domestic tourism advocacy program, Pilipinas, Tara Na!
“[W]e salute all the participating artists who have contributed their time and talents for free, to make a pitch for domestic tourism,” said tourism Secretary Alberto Lim. “We acknowledge the creative efforts of Perceptions, Inc. for enriching the lyrics of these new versions. Again, this initiative is an example of partnerships with stakeholders to create awareness and pride and to stimulate positive action for the sustainable development of our country’s patrimony and rich heritage.”
“Any impetus in local tourism can impact more quickly and extensively towards the growth of the economy and the improvement in incomes and standard of living of all Filipinos who are already employed or will be employed in the travel and hospitality business,” he added.
Lim also expressed appreciation to Smart Communications, Inc., which forged a marketing partnership with the DOT in support of its domestic tourism advocacy program through advertising and underwriting the production cost of the music video.
“Smart Communications has had a strong partnership with the DOT and we are happy to have done our part in the creation of the Pilipinas, Tara Na! songs and video. The awe-inspiring result of this collaborative effort between government, local companies and artists brings to fore the importance of the role that we all can play in helping our country,” said Orlando Vea, president, Smart Communications, Inc.
“We all had a great and personally fulfilling time in creating the new music videos as we did in doing the first one. We were happy about how the first one not only made Filipinos aware and appreciate their own local tourist attractions, but inspired in them a renewed sense of pride in the beauty, history, and culture of our country and in the world-class accomplishments of our countrymen,” said Rene Nieva, chairman and CEO, Perceptions Inc.
The artists who participated in this project are 6Cyclemind, Aiza Seguerra, Barbie Almalbis, Bayang Barrios, Billy Crawford, Bituin Escalante, Boboy Garovillo, Christian Bautista, Cookie Chua, Dolphy, Ebe Dancel, Gabby Alipe, Gail Blanco, Gloc-9, Itchyworms, Janno Gibbs, Jaya, Jay-R, Jed Madela, Jett Pangan, Jim Paredes, John Lesaca, Jong Cuenco, Karylle, Kevin Roy, Kitchie Nadal, Kris Lawrence, Kyla, Martin Nievera, Mike Villegas, Nikki Gil, Noel Cabangon, Ogie Alcasid, Pepe Smith, Raimund Marasigan, Regine Velasquez, Rico J. Puno, Rivermaya, Sam Concepcion, Spongecola, Yeng Constantino, and Zsa Zsa Padilla.
The public will have the chance to view and listen to the first “Pilipinas, Tara Na!” song and the second and third one once they are done by visiting the Pilipinas, Tara Na Facebook fanpage.

'Patrol ng Pilipino' Probes Oversupply of Pinoy Nurses
The country is experiencing a surplus of nurses with around 200,000 registered nurses currently unemployed, with some of them even offering free services or even paying to undergo so-called training.
The glut in nurses came as a result of a strong demand for nurses and the proliferation of nursing schools around the country in the past ten years. Filipinos were attracted by the prospects of a better and more comfortable living, which to many, could only be achieved by working overseas.
In "Patrol ng Pilipino" tomorrow (Sep 20), Jasmin Romero reports on the high-risk working conditions that volunteer nurses face while working without benefits or hazard pay. Earlier this year, the plight of volunteer Filipino nurses has been discussed in the Senate. But up to now, nothing concrete has been made to resolve the issue.
Meanwhile, Jeff Canoy travels to Japan for the Tokyo Game Show 2011, where many international video game developers show off their upcoming games and soon-to-be newest craze in game-related hardware. Watch these stories tomorrow (September 20) in “Patrol ng Pilipino,” Tuesday night after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN or earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable channel 26) at 9:15 pm.
